High-Performance Training Camp Kicks Off for Athletes in Guwahati
Launch of Training Camp in Guwahati
Guwahati (Assam), January 18: A new high-performance training camp has been inaugurated for athletes and coaches across seven different sports in Guwahati. This initiative is a collaboration between the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, Government of Assam, and the Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS). The training sessions for chess, table tennis, and tennis commenced on Saturday, while taekwondo training is set to begin tomorrow.
The inauguration took place with the presence of Kausar J Hilaly, Secretary of Sports and Youth Welfare for the Government of Assam, as stated in an official release.
Through this partnership with IIS, high-performance programs for Taekwondo, Athletics, and Archery will be implemented, adhering to international standards. The other sports, including chess, table tennis, tennis, and swimming, will receive direct support from the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare.
This initiative aims to establish long-term training systems that align with India's Olympic strategy, while also focusing on discovering new sporting talent in Assam and enhancing the skills of local coaches through contemporary training techniques.
The chess camp, hosted at the Civil Services Officers' Institute in Khanapara, features coaches Dejan Bojkov from Bulgaria and Vishal Sareen from India. A total of 47 selected athletes and coaches from Assam are participating, with the camp scheduled to run until January 27.
Meanwhile, the table tennis camp is taking place at the Bhogeswari Phukanani Indoor Stadium in Dispur, led by international coach Sekpong Yomjinda from Thailand. This camp includes 52 boys and girls, along with six coaches from Assam.
At the Department of Sports Tennis Courts in Dispur, a tennis training camp is currently underway with Brazilian coach Vinicius Ono. This camp features 32 boys and girls and six coaches from the state. Both the Tennis and Table Tennis camps are set to continue until January 24.
