Haryana Boxers Achieve Success at Asian Games

Two talented boxers from the Haryana regions of Bhiwani and Hansi have secured bronze medals in their respective weight classes at the ongoing Asian Games in Japan.

Priya Ghanghas, hailing from Dhanana village in Bhiwani, earned a bronze in the women’s 60-kg division after facing a defeat in the semi-finals against Yang Chengyu from China. Although Priya had the chance to vie for gold, a 4-1 loss concluded her pursuit for the top medal.

Her father, Mahender Singh, expressed a mix of disappointment over the missed gold but emphasized pride in her achievement for the nation. He mentioned that Priya is determined to train harder for future competitions. The family is excited to give her a warm reception upon her return.

Priya began her boxing journey in 2016, initially training in Dadri before moving to Bhiwani in 2022. Earlier this year, she also clinched gold in the women’s 60-kg event at the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow.

Meanwhile, Narender Berwal from Sorkhi village in Hansi also claimed a bronze medal in the men’s +90-kg category. This marks his second consecutive medal at the Asian Games, following his bronze win at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.

Narender previously secured a silver medal in the same weight class at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this year, bringing joy to his hometown of Sorkhi with his impressive performances.
