Harry Kane Eyes Ballon d'Or Glory After Stellar Season
Kane's Aspirations for the Ballon d'Or
Harry Kane, the England and Bayern Munich forward, believes he is a strong contender for this year's Ballon d'Or, football's most prestigious individual accolade, thanks to his impressive achievements and performances throughout the season.
This season has been remarkable for Kane, as he helped his team secure both the Bundesliga and the German Cup titles, notably scoring a hat-trick in the cup final. Additionally, he reached the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League and netted a total of 61 goals, earning him the European Golden Shoe.
Kane Discusses His Ballon d'Or Prospects
In an interview with L'Equipe prior to the FIFA World Cup, Kane expressed, "Considering the trophies I've won and the goals I've scored, I believe I am in contention for the award."
He added, "If England were to triumph in the World Cup hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada, it would be fitting for an English player to receive the trophy."
Kane mentioned that he sees himself, along with Michael Olise and the Champions League finalists, as frontrunners for the honor. However, he emphasized, "I prefer to let my on-field performances speak for themselves rather than claim I deserve the Ballon d'Or."
A Special Ceremony in London
The Ballon d'Or ceremony is set to take place on September 26 in London, and Kane views this as a positive sign.
"Winning in my hometown would be incredibly special," he remarked.
Reflecting on His Goal-Scoring Feat
Regarding his impressive tally of 61 goals this season, Kane acknowledged that reaching the 60-goal milestone places him in the same league as legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
"That's an astonishing figure. Once you surpass 60 goals, you enter the same realm as Messi and Ronaldo. Their statistics once seemed unattainable to me," he stated.
Kane's Hopes for England Under Tuchel
Kane is optimistic about the leadership of Thomas Tuchel, the current England manager who previously coached him at Bayern Munich. He hopes Tuchel can guide the team to victory while addressing media scrutiny regarding squad selections that excluded notable players like Cole Palmer and Harry Maguire.
"Our ambition is to win. That must be our objective. We understand the challenges ahead, but we've come close in recent years. I appreciated Tuchel's personality and his tactical approach at Bayern, and I believe he has successfully integrated his methods into the national team," Kane concluded.
