Harry Brook Falls Just Short of Century in Thrilling Test Match Against India
Brook's Near Miss
Harry Brook, the England batter ranked second in Tests, narrowly missed out on a century, falling just one run short during the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy 2025 against India. In the opening match at Headingley, after hitting a spectacular six off Prasidh Krishna, Brook lost his wicket while attempting the same shot, resulting in a straightforward catch for Shardul Thakur. His luck seemed to have run out after being dropped twice, including once by India's vice-captain, Rishabh Pant. Over the past year, Brook has been dropped 13 times out of 26 legal deliveries faced in Test matches.
Dropped Catches Record
As reported by ESPN, Harry Brook has experienced 13 dropped catches in Tests over the last year, the highest for any batter during this timeframe. He was let off twice while scoring 99 against India at Headingley and was also dismissed off a no-ball. This dismissal marked him as the 14th England player to be out on 99, the first since Jonny Bairstow against South Africa in 2017. Bairstow had previously recorded an unbeaten 99 at the same venue against Australia in 2023. Brook also set a dubious record as the third player to be dismissed on 99 at this ground.
India's Struggles in the Second Innings
India concluded the English innings at 465 runs, taking a slim lead of just six runs into their second innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored a century in the first innings, struggled in the second, departing for only 4 runs. KL Rahul, however, made a significant contribution with a half-century after a solid start in the first innings with 42 runs. Captain Shubman Gill also fell early in the second innings. Brydon Carse was instrumental in dismissing the centurions. The weather at Headingley also saw some rain interruptions on day three.
