Hargreaves and Wong Advance to Tokyo Open Pro Men's Singles Final

Tokyo Open Pro Men's Singles Final Set


Mitchell Hargreaves and Hong Kit Wong have secured their spots in the final of the Pro Men's Singles at the Tokyo Open, part of the PPA Tour Asia 500 series, following their semifinal victories on Friday, July 3. Wong triumphed over Zane Ford with scores of 11-6 and 12-10, while Hargreaves made a comeback after losing the first game to defeat Nasa Hatakeyama 5-11, 11-8, 12-10, setting the stage for their championship match on Saturday.


Hargreaves kicked off his tournament with a win against Zane Navratil, finishing the Round of 16 with a score of 11-5, 8-11, 11-5. He then narrowly defeated Tama Shimabukuro in the quarterfinals with a score of 9-11, 11-5, 11-9. In the semifinals, he once again bounced back after losing the first game, ultimately winning the decider 12-10 to secure his place in the final.


Wong's journey through the tournament has been marked by consistent performances. He began with a solid victory over Marco Leung, winning 11-4, 11-7 in the Round of 16, followed by a quarterfinal win against Luc Pham with scores of 11-8, 11-6. Wong maintained his strong form in the semifinals, defeating Ford in straight games, advancing to the final without losing a match.


Earlier in the tournament, Hatakeyama reached the semifinals by overcoming Jimmy Liong Kai Long with scores of 11-7, 11-5 in the quarterfinals, while Ford edged past Brandon French with a score of 11-8, 14-12. Hatakeyama also had a notable Round of 16 match, rallying past Kenta Miyoshi with scores of 9-11, 12-10, 11-1, while Ford defeated Longsheng Liu 11-4, 11-1.


The final match will feature Hargreaves facing Wong, while Ford and Hatakeyama will compete for the bronze medal.
