Gurnoor Brar Makes History with Record ODI Debut Performance
Gurnoor Brar's Historic ODI Debut
On Saturday, fast bowler Gurnoor Brar made a remarkable entry into the record books, becoming the most successful Indian bowler on ODI debut in a three-match series, following an outstanding performance against Afghanistan in Chennai's third ODI.
Previously, the record for the most wickets on debut was held by leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who took six wickets against Zimbabwe in 2016, and pacer Prasidh Krishna, who matched this feat against England in 2021.
Brar had already taken 3/27 in the first ODI and 3/60 in the second. He needed just one more wicket to break the record, which he accomplished in the seventh over of the third ODI.
India Completes Series Whitewash Against Afghanistan
In the match, India showcased a dominant performance, highlighted by a sensational century from Jaiswal, a five-wicket haul from Prasidh Krishna, and a powerful half-century from Rohit Sharma, leading to a nine-wicket victory over Afghanistan in the final ODI.
Afghanistan, led by skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi's century (102 runs off 131 balls, including 13 fours and a six) and Azmatullah Omarzai's fifty (50 runs off 56 balls, with five fours and two sixes), managed to score 218 runs after facing a fierce bowling attack from Prasidh Krishna (5/23).
Jaiswal (110* runs off 86 balls, featuring 14 fours and three sixes) and Rohit Sharma (79 runs off 69 balls, with nine fours and three sixes) formed a formidable partnership, contributing 170 runs for the first wicket, while Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer (20*) guided India to victory with over 21 overs remaining.
