Gurindervir Singh Aims for Sub-10 Seconds and Major Medals
Gurindervir Singh's Ambitions
Indian sprinter Gurindervir Singh has expressed his long-term goal of breaking the 10-second barrier in the 100m sprint, while also aiming for medals at the upcoming Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. In May, he made history by becoming the first Indian male athlete to finish the 100m in under 10.10 seconds, achieving a remarkable national record of 10.09 seconds at the Federation Cup in Ranchi. This achievement saw him surpass the previous national record set just a day earlier by Animesh Kujur.
During the inaugural Indian Athletics Awards ceremony, Gurindervir shared that despite the heightened expectations following his record, he remains focused on his performance objectives. He stated, "Since childhood, I have aimed to run under 10 seconds, and I also aspire to win medals at the Asian and Commonwealth Games."
He emphasized that his preparation strategy remains consistent, asserting that every competition is significant. "I treat every event with equal importance. For me, the Federation Cup was as crucial as the Commonwealth Games, and I will give my all in both," he remarked.
Gurindervir also mentioned that while major events like the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games carry more weight, he is now focused on enjoying the experience rather than succumbing to pressure regarding selection. "In the past, I felt a lot of pressure about being selected. Now, I plan to enjoy every moment of the competition," he added.
Reaffirming his competitive spirit, Gurindervir stated that his ultimate aim is to secure podium finishes. "Winning medals at the Commonwealth and Asian Games is my primary goal," he concluded.
