Gujarat Giants Set Competitive Target Against Delhi Capitals

Vadodara: In a thrilling encounter at the Women’s Premier League Eliminator, Beth Mooney emerged as a key player for the Gujarat Giants, scoring an impressive unbeaten 62 runs off 51 balls. Her performance helped the team reach a total of 168 for 7 against the Delhi Capitals.

Mooney's innings featured six boundaries and was crucial in stabilizing the Giants' innings after they faced early challenges from the Delhi bowlers.

She received vital support from fellow Australian Georgia Wareham, who contributed 35 runs, as the pair added a swift 61 runs for the fifth wicket.

Additionally, Mooney partnered with Kashvee Gautam (18) to form a significant 39-run partnership, propelling the Giants to a competitive score.

Delhi's bowlers made early breakthroughs, with Chinelle Henry claiming 3 wickets for 35 runs, including the dismissal of the dangerous Sophie Devine for just 6 runs. Nandini Sharma also made an impact, taking 2 wickets for 44 runs, including two in her first over.

Nandini's first wicket was Anushka Sharma (16), who mis-timed a flick, leading to a catch by Henry. She then dismissed skipper Ashleigh Gardner for a duck, caught by Sneh Rana.

Despite Mooney's efforts to counterattack, the introduction of spinners Minnu Mani and Rana stifled the run flow.

The pressure increased when Mani stumped Kanika Ahuja (6), bringing Wareham to the crease. Wareham managed to hit three boundaries and a six, providing some momentum as Mooney anchored the innings.

However, just as the Giants seemed to regain control, Henry struck again, taking two wickets in one over.

In the final overs, Mooney and Kashvee managed to find the boundary, ensuring the Giants set a challenging target.

Brief scores: Gujarat Giants 168/7 in 20 overs (Beth Mooney 62 not out, Georgia Wareham 35; Chinelle Henry 3/35, Nandini Sharma 2/44) vs Delhi Capitals.
