Governor Advocates for Enhanced Grassroots Sports Development in Odisha
Strengthening Youth Sports in Odisha
Bhubaneswar: On Saturday, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati emphasized the need to bolster grassroots sports initiatives, urging for increased youth engagement and the integration of sports science and technology to unlock the potential of young athletes.
During the opening of the two-day state-level Chintan Shivir 2026, organized by the Sports & Youth Services Department, the Governor highlighted that sports should serve not only as a route to excellence but also as a means to instill character, leadership, discipline, and social responsibility in the youth.
Kambhampati characterized the 'Chintan Shivir' as a vital forum for introspection and strategic planning, stating that such gatherings are instrumental in evaluating past successes, recognizing obstacles, and outlining a clear future direction. He remarked, “A Chintan Shivir transcends being just an event; it amalgamates experience, expertise, and innovative ideas to fortify institutions and promote ongoing enhancement.”
He commended Sports & Youth Services Minister Suryabanshi Suraj and his team for their efforts in organizing the event, noting that the involvement of policymakers, sports administrators, athletes, industry leaders, sports science professionals, and academics signifies a unified dedication to advancing sports in Odisha.
Kambhampati stressed the significance of innovation and perpetual improvement, asserting that excellence is a continuous journey rather than a final destination. He stated, “Genuine success is achieved by those who relentlessly pursue better methodologies. Progress is realized when we learn from our experiences, rectify our flaws, and welcome new concepts.”
Drawing a comparison to sports, the Governor pointed out that champions are not solely born from talent but are shaped through discipline, self-evaluation, and an unwavering desire for growth. He advocated for this mindset to be applied in efforts to cultivate a more robust sporting ecosystem. He also acknowledged Odisha’s accomplishments in sports, noting that the state has established itself as a premier sporting hub through consistent investment in infrastructure, grassroots talent cultivation, and the successful hosting of significant national and international events.
Expressing optimism about the outcomes of the two-day discussions, he anticipated that the dialogues would yield valuable insights and recommendations for the further enhancement of sports and youth development in Odisha. Minister Suraj also addressed the attendees during the event.
The welcome address was presented by Bhupendra Singh Poonia, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Sports & Youth Services Department.
