Gorakhpur to Welcome New International Cricket Stadium in 18 Months
Gorakhpur International Cricket Stadium: A New Era for Sports
The Government of Uttar Pradesh is making significant strides towards the establishment of the Gorakhpur International Cricket Stadium, which will be the state's fourth international cricket venue. Construction is already underway, with completion expected within the next 18 months. Currently, Uttar Pradesh boasts two operational stadiums: the Greenpark Stadium in Kanpur and the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, while a third stadium is being built in Varanasi.
Situated on a vast 50-acre plot at Tal Nadaur in Gorakhpur, this ambitious project, costing ₹236.40 crore, aims to transform the sporting landscape of the region. The addition of Gorakhpur's stadium will complete a strategic sporting triangle in eastern Uttar Pradesh. The Planning Department of the state government has developed a detailed plan for the construction, which will include a main complex covering 45 acres for the stadium and essential match-day facilities, with an additional 5 acres allocated for support amenities. The location is conveniently positioned within 25 kilometers of Gorakhpur Airport, the railway station, and major bus terminals.
Modern Design and Capacity for Major Events
Designed to meet international standards, the two-story stadium will not only focus on cricket but also serve multiple purposes. It will feature seven main pitches, four practice areas, and is expected to accommodate around 30,000 spectators. The design adheres to the guidelines set by the International Cricket Council (ICC), ensuring it is equipped to host high-profile matches. The venue is intended to be a center for regional, national, and international events, encompassing sports, culture, and community activities.
To facilitate large crowds, the stadium will include extensive parking for approximately 1,500 vehicles. The east and west stands will each hold 14,490 spectators, making up the bulk of the seating capacity. Additionally, the stadium will feature dedicated north and south pavilions, secure entry points, and comprehensive surveillance systems. Plans are also in place for a new access road connecting to the NH-24 Gorakhpur-Varanasi Highway, ensuring smooth transportation on match days.
Constructed using the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model, this project represents more than just a physical structure; it signifies Gorakhpur's emergence on the national cricket stage. For the local community, this stadium is not merely a sports facility; it embodies hope and pride.
