Gloucestershire Welcomes D'Arcy Short

Gloucestershire, UK - On May 20, the T20 Blast champions announced the signing of D'Arcy Short as they gear up to defend their title in the upcoming tournament starting May 29.

Short will join forces with his Western Australia teammate Cameron Bancroft at Gloucestershire. A two-time Player of the Tournament in the Big Bash League, Short has represented Australia in 23 T20 Internationals from 2018 to 2020. He also has prior experience in the T20 Blast, having played for Durham in 2019 and Hampshire in 2021.

Expressing his excitement, Short stated, “I am thrilled to join the reigning Blast champions, Gloucestershire, for the 2025 T20 Vitality Blast. They are a well-organized club, and I look forward to meeting the players and contributing to their success in 2025.”

Mark Alleyne, the coach of Gloucestershire, shared his enthusiasm about Short's addition, saying, “We are delighted to have D'Arcy on board. His batting versatility, effective from positions 1 to 6, along with his spin options during the Powerplay and middle overs, aligns perfectly with our team's strategy. We eagerly anticipate his arrival.”

In related news, Short's previous club, Durham, has signed New Zealand all-rounder James Neesham. This marks Neesham's sixth county club, following stints with Derbyshire, Essex, Kent, Leicestershire, and Northamptonshire.

Neesham expressed his eagerness to play for Durham this summer, stating, “The Vitality Blast is one of my favorite tournaments, and I have heard great things about the Durham squad. I am excited to get started with the team in a few weeks.”

Marcus North, Durham's director of cricket, commented, “Jimmy is a seasoned T20 all-rounder with a solid track record for New Zealand and in various franchise leagues. His ability to impact games with both bat and ball makes him a valuable asset for us.”
