Glenn Maxwell Joins Hyderabad Kingsmen for PSL Debut Amid IPL Struggles
Maxwell's Arrival in Pakistan for PSL
Glenn Maxwell is gearing up to make his debut in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) with the Hyderabad Kingsmen. The prominent Australian all-rounder has arrived in Pakistan to join the Kingsmen. Maxwell's performance in the IPL has been disappointing, leading many to label him a one-season wonder. After a lackluster season with Punjab Kings (PBKS), he opted out of the IPL 2026 mini-auction. Instead, he chose to compete in the PSL, where he will be under the leadership of Marnus Labuschagne. The Kingsmen have struggled, losing all four of their matches and sitting at the bottom of the points table. Maxwell's experience could be crucial in turning their fortunes around. With a record of 503 T20 matches, he has accumulated 10,986 runs and taken 198 wickets, alongside 2,897 runs and 51 wickets in 130 T20 internationals.
Maxwell has been a fixture in the IPL for ten years, starting his journey with the Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils) in 2012, before moving to the Mumbai Indians in 2013. He played for Punjab Kings from 2014 to 2017, even captaining the team during the 10th season. After a stint with Delhi in 2018, he returned to PBKS in 2020. Following four seasons with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he made another comeback to PBKS, but his performance in IPL 2025 was underwhelming, scoring just 48 runs in six innings. Overall, Maxwell has amassed 2,819 runs and taken 41 wickets in 141 IPL matches, with RCB retaining him prior to the IPL 2022 mega-auction.
The Future of Maxwell's International Career
Is Glenn Maxwell's international career over?
Glenn Maxwell's future in international cricket appears uncertain as he has been omitted from Cricket Australia's central contract list. He made his ODI debut for Australia against Afghanistan in 2012, accumulating 3,990 runs and 77 wickets in 149 ODIs before retiring from this format in 2025. His last ODI appearance was during the Champions Trophy. Maxwell also debuted in Test cricket against India in 2013, finishing with seven Test caps. He has been a consistent player in white-ball formats, particularly in T20 internationals.
