Toronto, June 18: In a thrilling encounter at Toronto Stadium, Ghana secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Panama thanks to a last-minute goal from Caleb Yirenkyi in the 95th minute during their FIFA World Cup Group L match on Thursday.

Panama had the first significant opportunity when Amir Murillo delivered a low cross to Cecilio Waterman, but Benjamin Asare made a spectacular diving save to deny him. They threatened again when a weak punch from Asare fell to Jiovany Ramos, who unfortunately sent his shot soaring over the bar.

The second half saw Ghana's goal under pressure, with Cristian Martinez coming close after collecting a loose ball in the box, only to hit the side netting with his attempt.

Coach Queiroz, who has now led teams in five consecutive World Cups, made a crucial double substitution just before the hour mark that nearly paid off. Substitute Brandon Thomas-Asante made a run down the right and crossed for Jordan Ayew, but Ramos intervened with a crucial defensive play.

As the match seemed destined for a draw, Thomas-Asante broke free on the left, driving into the box and setting up Yirenkyi, who scored his first international goal, sealing the win for the Black Stars and denying Panama their first World Cup point.

Queiroz's achievement is remarkable, as he becomes only the second coach to participate in five consecutive World Cups, following Bora Milutinovic, having previously managed Portugal in 2010, Iran in 2014, Russia in 2018, and Qatar in 2022.
