Bhullar's Impressive Round in Jakarta

Jakarta, Indonesia - On October 3, Gaganjeet Bhullar showcased his exceptional skills at the Jakarta International Championship, delivering an impressive five-under-par second round of 65. This performance propelled him to a tie for second place on the leaderboard, just one stroke behind the clubhouse leader, Pavit Tangkamolprasert from Thailand.

Beginning the day by finishing two holes from his first round, Bhullar seamlessly transitioned into round two, achieving four birdies on his front nine and three more on the back. Despite encountering two bogeys on holes 13 and 15, the Olympian demonstrated why Indonesia has been a successful venue for him, as noted in a release from LIV Golf.

“Completing the last two holes from the first round this morning and finishing with a birdie gave me great momentum for round two,” Bhullar remarked. “The key to my success today was accuracy; I hit all 14 fairways and 16 greens in regulation, which provided numerous birdie opportunities. Although I had two bogeys, it was a solid round overall.”

At 37 years old, Bhullar is well-acquainted with triumph in Indonesia. Out of his 11 Asian Tour victories, five have been secured in Indonesia, including his latest win at the 2023 BNI Indonesian Masters. He also claimed victory at the Indonesia Open held at this course back in 2013.

“It feels great to be back here,” he added. “This place brings back many positive memories. Seeing my photo among the champions is always motivating. Indonesia has treated me well, and I aim to maintain this positive momentum.”

Having participated in all four International Series events this year, Bhullar is optimistic about his future performances. “My best finish was around 14th in Morocco, but I felt I was playing better than my scores indicated. I believe I’ve been performing better than my scores reflect. Sometimes, a strong first half sets the stage for a successful second half, and I’m eager for a strong series of events,” he commented.

Steve Lewton from England, who won the Mandiri Indonesia Open on the same course last year, matched Bhullar's performance with a bogey-free six-under round, bringing him level with Bhullar. Pavit, leading the tournament, matched Bhullar’s five-under round, taking the lead at 11-under-par, thanks to his excellent putting.

“My overall game has been solid this week, particularly my putting,” Pavit stated. “I worked hard after last week’s performance, and it seems to be paying off. Once I made my first putt, my confidence soared.” Another standout was fellow Thai golfer Tanapat Pichaikool, who delivered an outstanding eight-under-par round, moving into fourth place. He began with four consecutive birdies from holes one to four, setting a confident tone for his round.

“It was an incredible round,” Tanapat expressed. “I told myself to play freely and not to worry about anything else, and the results reflected that.”

With Bhullar in close contention for the lead, Indian fans will be eagerly watching as the weekend progresses at the Jakarta International Championship.
