Rabiot Comments on Morocco's Challenge

Following France's 2-0 triumph over Morocco in the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-finals, midfielder Adrien Rabiot expressed that the team felt minimal threat from their opponents. He noted that Morocco struggled to create significant chances during the match held in Boston, as reported by a French news source. France dominated the game with 22 shots, while Morocco managed only five, with just one on target. Rabiot acknowledged that although Morocco has talented players capable of changing the game, they did not pose a serious threat when they had possession. He stated, "We felt that when we allowed them to have the ball, they weren't very dangerous. We had little to fear from this team. It's surprising, but they have extraordinary individual players, which is why we must remain vigilant."

Team Spirit and Resilience Highlighted

Rabiot commended the team's focus and unity after the victory, emphasizing their composure even after missing a penalty in the first half. He remarked on the significance of reaching a third consecutive World Cup semi-final, attributing this success to the strong bond within the squad. France previously won the World Cup in 2018 and finished as runners-up in 2022. Rabiot expressed, "We were very focused. Even after Bounou's penalty save, we maintained our determination and resilience. We are not taking this achievement for granted; there is a lot of joy in the locker room because we have been giving our all for weeks. The group is exceptional, and everyone is united."

Goals from Mbappe and Dembele Secure Semi-Final Spot

In the match, France's captain Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele scored in the second half, propelling France into the semi-finals. Despite Morocco's initial confidence and pressure, France's attacking prowess ultimately made the difference. Morocco started strong, matching France's intensity and creating counter-attack opportunities through players like Brahim Diaz and Achraf Hakimi, but they struggled to convert possession into clear chances against a solid French defense.

As the match progressed, France began to create more opportunities. Mbappe nearly scored and missed a penalty, leaving the score tied at halftime. The breakthrough came in the 60th minute when Mbappe scored with a brilliant finish from inside the box, assisted by Desire Doue, marking his eighth goal of the tournament and tying him with Lionel Messi for the Golden Boot race.

Dembele extended France's lead in the 66th minute with a powerful shot from outside the box, which Morocco's goalkeeper Yassine Bounou could not stop, marking Dembele's fifth goal of the tournament. Morocco fought hard until the end, but France's experience allowed them to maintain their lead and secure a place in the semi-finals, ending Morocco's remarkable World Cup journey. France will face either Spain or Belgium in the next round.
