Berlin, June 4: TSG Hoffenheim, a prominent German football club, has officially signed Austrian international Patrick Wimmer, enhancing their attacking lineup as they gear up for European competitions.
The 25-year-old midfielder transfers from relegated Wolfsburg, having agreed to a contract that extends until June 2031, following Hoffenheim's activation of a 10-million-euro release clause in his previous contract.
Wimmer, who is included in Austria's FIFA World Cup squad, was unable to participate in Wolfsburg's final match of the season and the relegation play-offs against Paderborn due to muscle injuries.
Having previously played for Arminia Bielefeld, Wimmer will continue his career in Germany's top division with Hoffenheim, which is preparing for the challenges of the Bundesliga, UEFA Europa League, and the German Cup next season.
Hoffenheim's sporting director, Paul Pajduch, expressed confidence in Wimmer's abilities, stating, "Patrick is offensively versatile with his profile and has already sustainably proven his qualities in the Bundesliga." He emphasized that Wimmer's intense playing style aligns perfectly with the team's philosophy.
Wimmer noted that Hoffenheim's growth and playing style were significant factors in his decision to join. "TSG Hoffenheim showed impressive development last season, featuring exciting players and a dynamic style of football," he remarked.
He also mentioned his previous connection with coach Chris Ilzer, who gave him his professional debut at Austria Vienna. "I am thrilled to work with him again at Hoffenheim," Wimmer added.
Wimmer's career began at SC Sitzenberg-Reidling, followed by stints at SG Waidhofen/Ybbs, SV Gaflenz, and Austria Vienna, where he made his Austrian Bundesliga debut at just 18 years old under Ilzer's guidance.
In August 2021, he joined Arminia Bielefeld, and a year later, he moved to Wolfsburg. Throughout his Bundesliga career, he has made 125 appearances, netting 16 goals, and has earned 30 caps for Austria, scoring once. He is also part of Austria's Euro 2024 squad and is set to compete in the upcoming World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
