New Delhi, Sep 14: Ludek Miklosko, the former goalkeeper for West Ham, QPR, and the Czech Republic, has died at the age of 64 following a prolonged illness.

A true icon at West Ham, Miklosko made over 300 appearances for the Premier League team. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2021 and chose to stop treatment in December 2024.

West Ham expressed their sorrow over Miklosko's passing, highlighting his legacy as the club's Hammer of the Year in the 1990-91 season. "It is with deep and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our legendary former goalkeeper and coach, Ludek Miklosko," the club stated.

"Rest in peace, Ludek, our beloved and inspirational goalkeeper, a gentle giant," they added. His son, Martin Miklosko, shared his father's passion for the club.

"We are heartbroken to share the news of my dad Ludek's passing after a brave battle with cancer," Martin said. "Dad had a deep love for West Ham United and cherished hearing his name sung at every match. The club and its supporters will always be part of our family, and we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts," he continued.

The Hammers plan to honor their legend with a moment of appreciation before their Carabao Cup match against Fulham on Tuesday. Additionally, they will dedicate their upcoming Championship game against QPR on October 9 to Miklosko. He also had a brief stint with QPR from 1998 to 2001 after his time with West Ham from 1990 to 1998.

The Football Association of the Czech Republic also paid tribute to Miklosko, who represented Czechoslovakia from 1982 to 1992 and later the Czech Republic in 1996 and 1997.

"Czech football has been struck by sad news. Former Czechoslovakian and Czech national team goalkeeper Luděk Mikloško, a key figure at Baník Ostrava and a legend at West Ham United, has passed away at 64 after a serious illness," the FACR stated.

FACR chairman David Trunda expressed his condolences, stating, "It is with deep sadness that I learned of Ludek Miklosko's passing, a significant figure in Czech football. His performances and dedication left a lasting impact on the sport's history, earning him respect both domestically and internationally.

"His name will forever be linked to a pivotal era in Czech football and the values he embodied as a player and individual. On behalf of the Football Association of the Czech Republic and personally, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with Ludek. May his memory be honored," concluded Trunda.
