New Jersey, June 22: Brazil's chances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup have received a significant boost with the return of star forward Neymar to full training ahead of their final Group C clash against Scotland.
The Santos player, who had started training partially last week, was initially sidelined at the tournament's beginning. He successfully completed his first full training session with the Brazilian squad since they gathered in Teresopolis, near Rio de Janeiro, on May 27.
Neymar shared moments from his training on X, expressing his joy with the caption, "Thank you, God, I'm so incredibly happy!"
On Friday, Brazil's head coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that the 34-year-old has recovered from a grade two calf strain and will be part of the matchday squad for Wednesday's decisive Group C match against Scotland in Miami.
Teammate Lucas Paqueta remarked that Neymar's return has uplifted the morale of the five-time world champions. "We're all thrilled about Neymar's comeback," the midfielder stated to reporters on Sunday. "He is a crucial player for our national team, with an impressive history that can greatly assist us. I hope to see him back on the field helping us soon."
Last week, Neymar underwent imaging tests to evaluate his injury recovery, which showed positive results.
As Brazil's all-time leading scorer with 79 goals in 128 international matches, Neymar has not represented the national team since suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in October 2023.
He has indicated that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will mark the end of his career, responding to a FIFA social media post that showcased his journey with the caption, "We've watched him grow up."
Currently, Brazil tops Group C with four points, leading Morocco on goal difference, while Scotland sits in third with three points, and Haiti remains at the bottom without any points.
