Lionel Messi Reflects on Iconic Photo with Lamine Yamal Ahead of World Cup Final
Messi's Nostalgic Reaction to Viral Photo
Lionel Messi expressed his astonishment over a widely shared image featuring a young Lamine Yamal, which dates back to 2007. The two will soon compete against each other as Argentina defends its title in the FIFA World Cup final against Spain. This memorable photo, captured at the FC Barcelona stadium for a charity calendar by the local newspaper Sport and UNICEF, shows a 20-year-old Messi cradling a six-month-old Yamal in a plastic bathtub. The image was taken by freelance photographer Joan Monfort. In a conversation with seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, Messi remarked, “It’s just insane that we’re now facing each other after that photo was taken when he was just a baby.” He also praised Yamal, stating, “He’s one of the best in the world right now.”
