Jürgen Klopp has officially launched his role as the head coach of the German national football team, making headlines with a passionate press conference. He emphasized that he would resign immediately if he faced the same treatment from the media as his predecessors, Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Tuchel, both of whom are also German. Klopp expressed his desire for his family to be left out of the spotlight, stating that he did not take the position for personal gain.

He made it clear that if the team's performance falters, he would step down without seeking any severance pay. 'The day you no longer want me, I’ll leave without demanding any severance pay. If you come out tomorrow and say, ‘He’s no good,’ I’ll leave. But it’s not enough for just one person to say that—it takes more than that,' Klopp remarked. He also mentioned that he is aware of the harsher treatment national team coaches receive in other countries.

Klopp reiterated his commitment to the role, stating, 'I love this job but I am always ready to call it quits if need be. If you go after my family, I’ll leave. If you think I’m not up to the task, tell me to my face; I’ll leave immediately without demanding any severance pay.' He confirmed that this position will be his final coaching role, describing it as the pinnacle of his career. 'I will give everything I have got,' he declared.

Reflecting on his journey, Klopp noted, 'Over the last few days it was almost like a movie happening to myself. I have always surmised the job of Germany head coach is really big but now it is really dawning on me what being the national team head coach is all about.' He acknowledged that while it was once unimaginable for him to take on this role, he now feels the timing is right.

Klopp aims to rejuvenate the German national team, which has struggled since their 2014 World Cup victory. They have failed to advance past the Round of 16 in subsequent tournaments, facing group stage exits in 2018 and 2022, and a Round of 32 loss to Paraguay in 2026. Additionally, they were eliminated by England in the Round of 16 during the 2021 UEFA Euros and lost to Spain in the quarter-finals of the 2024 tournament they hosted.
