ISL Clubs Raise Alarm to AIFF

A collective statement from various Indian Super League (ISL) teams was issued on Friday, warning the All India Football Federation (AIFF) about their diminishing commitment to the league if the ongoing uncertainties in Indian football continue. This announcement comes ahead of the AIFF's crucial Special General Body Meeting, where discussions regarding the future commercial framework of the ISL are expected to be a focal point. Clubs such as Kerala Blasters, Mumbai City FC, Bengaluru FC, Inter Kashi, and Sporting Club Delhi shared this message on their official social media platforms.

Concerns Voiced by ISL Teams

“With significant concern and disappointment, the clubs of the Indian Super League express that, due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding professional football in India, we feel compelled to reassess our commitment to the league beyond the current season,” the joint statement read.

Furthermore, the clubs stressed the importance of a financially viable league structure for the future of Indian football and urged the federation to consider their proposed alternative commercial model seriously.

“A financially sustainable league must be at the core of Indian football’s future. We have suggested an alternative model that we believe is credible, constructive, and deserving of evaluation alongside other proposals presented to the AIFF,” the statement continued.

“We call upon the AIFF to recognize the realities faced by those funding and managing the league, and to collaborate on a framework that is sustainable, inclusive, and considers all stakeholders,” the clubs concluded. With the AIFF's Special General Body Meeting set for Saturday, May 23, this announcement comes at a pivotal time for Indian football. The future commercial structure of the ISL, following the expiration of the Master Rights Agreement between AIFF and FSDL earlier this season, is expected to be a key topic of discussion during the meeting.

Since the league's inception in February, the ongoing stalemate has led to a significantly reduced 13-match schedule for the 2025–26 ISL season, plunging Indian football into a prolonged period of uncertainty. During this delay, numerous clubs have reportedly faced operational and financial challenges, with uncertainties surrounding player salaries, contract renewals, and long-term planning.
