Houston, June 15: Germany kicked off their FIFA World Cup journey in spectacular fashion, overpowering Curacao with a staggering 7-1 scoreline on Sunday. Felix Nmecha made headlines by scoring the tournament's fastest goal, propelling Julian Nagelsmann's squad to a comfortable win in their Group E match.

The four-time champions asserted their dominance right from the start, earning an early breakthrough. Within the first six minutes, Nmecha combined effectively with Florian Wirtz, delivering a powerful shot into the net, marking the quickest goal of the tournament.

Curacao, the smallest nation ever to qualify for a World Cup in terms of both size and population, stunned the Germans by leveling the score midway through the first half. With a population of around 155,000 and an area of just 171 square miles, the Caribbean team provided a memorable moment when Zurich midfielder Livano Comenencia made history.

Comenencia received the ball at the edge of the box and unleashed a left-footed shot that deflected past 40-year-old Manuel Neuer, who was making his fifth World Cup appearance. Curacao nearly capitalized on this momentum when striker Jurgen Locadia sought a penalty after maneuvering past Jonathan Tah, but the appeal was unsuccessful. Germany regained their composure after a hydration break.

Nagelsmann's squad responded with renewed vigor, regaining the lead through Nico Schlotterbeck, who headed in a corner from Nathaniel Brown, beating goalkeeper Eloy Room. The pressure mounted, and Germany was awarded a penalty deep into first-half stoppage time when Riechedly Bazoer fouled the impressive Nmecha in the box. Kai Havertz confidently converted the penalty in the fifth minute of added time, giving Germany a 3-1 advantage at halftime.

Any hopes of a Curacao resurgence were dashed almost immediately after the second half commenced. Just 69 seconds in, Jamal Musiala capitalized on a clever pass from Joshua Kimmich, outmuscled a defender, and scored Germany's fourth goal. The Germans continued to press forward, with left-back Nathaniel Brown marking his World Cup debut with a volleyed goal following a clever flick from substitute Deniz Undav.

Undav then added his name to the scoresheet, finishing off another assist from Kimmich to extend the lead to 6-1. The Stuttgart forward capped off an impressive performance by assisting Germany's seventh goal, setting up Havertz, who delicately lifted the ball over Room just two minutes before the final whistle, sealing the emphatic victory.
