East Bengal FC vs Chennaiyin FC

On Saturday, East Bengal FC will take on Chennaiyin FC, while Bengaluru FC is set to face Kerala Blasters in the Indian Super League 2025-26. The early match will see East Bengal travel to Chennai for their first away game of the season at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Following that, Bengaluru FC will host Kerala Blasters at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium.

Chennaiyin FC is looking to recover from a recent 1-2 loss to Inter Kashi FC. Currently positioned 11th with five points from six matches, a win would elevate them to eight points. In contrast, East Bengal FC comes into this match with momentum from a remarkable 7-0 victory over Mohammedan SC in their last outing, placing them fourth with 11 points. A win for East Bengal could boost them to 14 points, keeping their championship aspirations alive.

Historically, Chennaiyin FC has a slight advantage in this matchup, having won three out of their last ten encounters, while East Bengal has secured two victories, with five matches ending in draws. Their last meeting in February 2025 saw Chennaiyin triumph with a 3-0 victory.

Chennaiyin FC's head coach, Clifford Miranda, acknowledged the challenge posed by East Bengal, praising their attacking capabilities. He stated, "East Bengal is the most balanced team in the league. They are very fast on the wings and can play possession or go direct. They have scored the most goals in the league so far; it’s not easy to play against them." Defender Mandar Rao Dessai emphasized the need for teamwork in defense, stating, "It’s not only about defenders; we have to defend as a team. They have good wingers, but we also have experienced players. It’s a new game, and we are ready."

East Bengal's head coach, Oscar Bruzon, expressed his ambitions for the season, recalling a strong performance in their previous away match against Chennaiyin. He noted, "They are still trying to find their rhythm, but they are former champions and always contenders. We are eager to perform well in the next seven games and push towards the top positions." Midfielder Souvik Chakrabarti echoed this sentiment, stating, "Every team in the ISL is competitive. Chennaiyin is a tough team, and we will give 100 percent to win the match. We have had a long gap which helped us to recover well and we are looking forward to continuing our performance from the last match."

Bengaluru FC vs Kerala Blasters FC

In the evening match, Bengaluru FC will return to their home ground, the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, aiming to build on their recent 2-0 away victory against FC Goa. Currently sitting fourth with 14 points, a win could bring them to 17 points, just one point shy of the league leaders. Meanwhile, Kerala Blasters FC are in dire need of a turnaround after a 0-2 defeat to Sporting Club Delhi. They will be without center-back Aibanbha Kupar Dohling, who is suspended due to a red card.

Kerala Blasters are struggling at the bottom of the table with only one point from seven matches and desperately need a win to avoid relegation. Historically, Bengaluru FC has dominated this matchup, winning 11 out of 17 previous ISL encounters, while Kerala has only four victories, with two matches ending in draws. Their last clash in December 2024 saw Bengaluru secure a 4-2 win.

Bengaluru FC coach Pep Muñoz is excited about the match, likening it to a derby atmosphere. He stated, "It’s a big game and feels like a derby. We want to show our potential at home in front of a full crowd, but ultimately, it’s 11 against 11 on the pitch." Captain Sunil Chhetri cautioned against complacency, emphasizing that Kerala will come to win, saying, "We shouldn’t focus on the table because Kerala will come to win. Home advantage only matters if we start well."

Kerala Blasters head coach Ashley Westwood acknowledged the team's difficult start but pointed out the positives from their last match. He explained, "I’ve got my framework and ideas about how we want to play, both with and without the ball. We saw a good start against Delhi. Now we just have to build on it, add quality, take care of the ball, and be more compact defensively." Goalkeeper Arsh Shaikh stressed the importance of improving their defense, stating, "Every game you want to do well defensively as a unit and try to keep a clean sheet. That hasn’t been the case for us so far, but we shouldn’t get frustrated. Hopefully, we can get a few clean sheets and collect some points in the next games."

A win for either East Bengal FC or Bengaluru FC would solidify their positions in the top half of the table, while a victory for Chennaiyin FC or Kerala Blasters FC would provide a significant morale boost.
