Birmingham, May 8: Aston Villa has successfully reached the UEFA Europa League final after defeating Nottingham Forest with a commanding 4-1 aggregate score, including a 4-0 victory in the thrilling second leg held at Villa Park.

The Villans are set to face Freiburg in the final, which will take place at Besiktas Park in Istanbul on May 20.

Having previously won the European Cup in 1982, this marks Aston Villa's second appearance in a major UEFA final. The club has not secured a significant trophy since 1996 and has faced defeat in four cup finals since then.

Despite an early attempt from Omari Hutchinson that went wide, Villa dominated the early stages without creating significant threats. Pau Torres had a shot that required a save from Stefan Ortega, while Youri Tielemans and Ollie Watkins also missed opportunities.

After Tielemans' long-range effort, Villa finally broke the deadlock. Emiliano Buendía showcased his skill by maneuvering past Jair Cunha and Elliot Anderson, setting up Watkins for the opening goal.

Villa maintained their momentum after halftime and were awarded a penalty when Nikola Milenković fouled Torres. Buendía confidently converted the penalty, giving Unai Emery's team a crucial advantage.

John McGinn then scored two quick goals to seal the match. The club captain first curled in a beautiful left-footed shot from a Watkins assist, followed by another goal just three minutes later after receiving a pass from Morgan Rogers.

Each goal was celebrated with increasing excitement as Villa's impressive performance brought them closer to potentially winning their third European trophy.

Unai Emery, the coach of Aston Villa, expressed his pride in the team's performance, stating, "I'm so, so proud of how we played the match. It's something special to play a final in Istanbul, and we can feel proud of how we achieved it. Now, we must enjoy the process, prepare for the game, and respect the competition and Freiburg."
