Arsenal Advances to UEFA Champions League Final with Historic Victory
Arsenal's Remarkable Journey Continues
Arsenal has maintained its impressive performance this season, achieving another significant milestone. On May 5 (May 6 IST), the Gunners secured a 1-0 victory against Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals at the Emirates Stadium in London. Bukayo Saka netted the decisive goal just before halftime, in the 44th minute. With a total aggregate score of 2-1 over the two legs, Arsenal has successfully advanced to the final of this prestigious European tournament. This victory has allowed Arsenal to set a remarkable record, becoming the first team in the history of the competition to remain unbeaten in all 14 matches played in a single Champions League season.
The final is set to take place at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, where Arsenal will compete against the winner of the semi-final clash between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Bayern Munich.
Arsenal Breaks More Records
With their triumph over Atletico Madrid, Arsenal achieved their 41st win of the 2025/26 season, marking the highest number of victories in a single season for the club. The last time they reached 41 wins was during the 1970-71 season. This marks Arsenal's second appearance in the UEFA Champions League final, the first being in 2006 when they faced Barcelona. After a 20-year wait, they have returned to the final, setting a record for the longest gap between final appearances by an English club. Liverpool previously experienced a similar 20-year wait before winning the Champions League final against AC Milan in 2005.
Arsenal is now just one victory away from claiming their first-ever Champions League title, which would make Mikel Arteta the first manager to lead the club to this achievement. He now stands alongside the legendary Arsene Wenger as one of only two managers to guide Arsenal to the final.
