Fitzpatrick Triumphs in RBC Heritage Playoff; Bhatia and Theegala Shine
Bhatia and Theegala Secure Top 25 Finishes
Akshay Bhatia and Sahith Theegala both delivered impressive performances at the RBC Heritage on the PGA TOUR, finishing under par. Bhatia climbed to a tie for 16th place, improving from his previous position of 25th, while Theegala advanced to a tie for 25th, moving up from 41st. Another player of Indian descent, Sudarshan Yellamaraju, shot a 68 to finish tied for 53rd.
Fitzpatrick Edges Out Scheffler in Thrilling Playoff
In a dramatic showdown, Matt Fitzpatrick (70) outlasted World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (67) at Harbour Town Links. Scheffler, who had been trailing by three shots, managed to tie the game and force a playoff, both finishing at 18-under par. During the playoff, Fitzpatrick executed a remarkable 4-iron shot from 204 yards, landing 13 feet from the pin for a birdie, which he successfully converted to clinch the RBC Heritage title for the second time.
Fitzpatrick's Fourth PGA TOUR Victory
This win marks Fitzpatrick's fourth title on the PGA TOUR and his 13th globally, propelling him to a career-best ranking of No. 3 in the world. He has recently enjoyed a successful streak, having won nearly USD 8.3 million in his last four tournaments, including a victory at the Valspar Championship following a runner-up finish at THE PLAYERS.
Intense Playoff Drama
The playoff mirrored Fitzpatrick's previous RBC Heritage victory three years ago against Jordan Spieth. This time, the final hole proved to be particularly challenging. Scheffler, who was three shots behind with four holes remaining, managed to tie the game with two late birdies, finishing with a 4-under 67. Fitzpatrick, however, faced a setback with a poor chip shot and a missed par putt, leading to his only bogey of the day.
Scheffler's day ended with a disappointing swing, hitting a 6-iron that fell short of the hole by 37 yards. He executed a great pitch to 8 feet but did not need to putt as Fitzpatrick sealed the victory.
Scheffler's Consecutive Runner-Up Finish
This marks Scheffler's second consecutive runner-up finish, having previously come from 12 shots behind to finish just one stroke behind Rory McIlroy at the Masters. At the RBC Heritage, he started the weekend seven shots behind Fitzpatrick and finished with rounds of 64 and 67. Kim, who closed with a 68, finished third, marking his fourth top-10 finish of the year.
