Major League Pickleball's Crucial Orlando Event

The Major League Pickleball (MLP) is approaching its final regular-season event in Orlando, which will play a pivotal role in shaping the playoff landscape. Out of the total teams, twelve will advance to the playoffs, with the top four seeds receiving a bye into the second round. An interesting twist in the format allows higher-seeded teams to select their first-round opponents. The fifth seed will choose first from the ninth to twelfth seeds, followed by the sixth seed, and so forth in each playoff round.

The playoffs will take place across three locations, starting with round one in Dallas from August 6 to 9, followed by round two in Newport Beach the following week. The semifinals and finals are scheduled for New York City two weeks later.

Currently, three teams—Utah Black Diamonds, Florida Smash, and Bay Area Breakers—are out of playoff contention. Meanwhile, Carolina Hogs and Phoenix Flames still have a slim chance, needing to win the Orlando event to keep their hopes alive.

Several teams are still in the race for playoff spots, including Chicago Slice, California Black Bears, Las Vegas Night Owls, Orlando Squeeze, and Miami Pickleball Club, all of whom require specific outcomes in Orlando to qualify.

On the other hand, Texas Ranchers and Dallas Flash have already secured their playoff positions, with Dallas showing remarkable improvement, having gone from zero points earlier in the season to winning their last two matches consecutively.

Three teams are vying for the remaining first-round bye spots: Brooklyn Pickleball Team, Columbus Sliders, and LA Mad Drops. New Jersey 5s and St. Louis Shock have effectively locked in their byes, but they are now competing for the top overall seed in the tournament, as both teams are currently tied in the standings.

This final event in Orlando is crucial, as it will determine who gains an advantage heading into the playoffs and who will miss out entirely.
