Spain's Young Star Ready for World Cup Semi-Final

Dallas, Texas – On July 14, Lamine Yamal, the young talent from Spain, expressed his excitement for the upcoming challenge as La Roja prepares to face France in the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup 2026 at Dallas Stadium on Tuesday (local time).

Spain is striving to reach their first World Cup final since their triumph in South Africa in 2010, while France aims for a third consecutive final appearance after winning in 2018 and finishing as runners-up in 2022.

Despite the high stakes, the Barcelona forward stated he feels no pressure as they approach this crucial match.

“We know how to handle challenges. As for pressure, I don’t feel it,” Yamal mentioned during the pre-match press conference, as reported by FIFA.

He acknowledged the attention on his recent performances but views the semi-final as an ideal chance to showcase his abilities.

“You say I’m not at my best, so don’t expect too much from me, but I believe tomorrow will be a special day. This is the most significant match I will ever play. I’m thrilled to have made it this far. We’re all very excited, especially me. This is undoubtedly the most important match of my career,” he stated.

Spain's head coach, Luis de la Fuente, supported Yamal's composed perspective, emphasizing that the team has learned to balance responsibility with enjoyment throughout the tournament.

“Playing in a World Cup semi-final – after watching so many on television – now we are in the spotlight,” De la Fuente remarked, according to FIFA.

“We’ve never shied away from the responsibility that comes with this. We’ve always played with that sense of duty, and we understand what we represent, but we’ve also enjoyed the beauty of playing football on such grand stages. It’s about finding a balance, but we must not let the responsibility make us anxious,” he added.

The European champions have gained momentum as the tournament has progressed. After starting with a goalless draw against Cape Verde, Spain topped Group H and eliminated Austria, Portugal, and Belgium, with Mikel Merino scoring crucial late goals in the last two knockout matches.

Spain has gone 36 matches without a defeat in regulation time since March 2024 and could match Italy’s all-time record of 37 if they avoid losing to France.

De la Fuente encouraged his players to relish the opportunity of competing on football’s biggest stage, recalling the spirit that led Spain to their only World Cup title in 2010.

“I’m quite romantic; I enjoy Julio Iglesias… how could I not be romantic?” De la Fuente said with a smile, as per FIFA.

“I tell the players to appreciate what they have today. We’re privileged. We’re going to play football, and we possess exceptional talent. Let’s perform to the best of our abilities. That’s the pressure I place on them – look how gentle I am – so they can reach their full potential,” he added.

On the other hand, France enters the semi-final in formidable form. Didier Deschamps’ team won all three of their group-stage matches and eliminated Sweden, Paraguay, and Morocco in the knockout rounds without conceding a goal. Deschamps will also achieve a significant milestone, overseeing his record 26th FIFA World Cup match as head coach.

The historical record provides hope for Spain ahead of the match. La Roja has won 18 of their 38 encounters with France and has triumphed in seven of the last ten meetings, including victories in the semi-finals of UEFA Euro 2024 and the 2025 UEFA Nations League Finals.

With a spot in the FIFA World Cup 2026 final at stake, this eagerly awaited match will showcase Spain’s fearless young generation against the experience and pedigree of one of international football’s most successful teams.
