Ronaldo's Historic Achievement at World Cup 2026

In Texas, on June 24, FIFA President Gianni Infantino extended his congratulations to Cristiano Ronaldo for becoming the first player ever to score in six different FIFA World Cup tournaments. Ronaldo reached this remarkable milestone during Portugal's 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan in their Group K match at Houston Stadium, netting his first goal of the ongoing World Cup 2026.


Infantino took to Instagram to celebrate Ronaldo's accomplishment, describing it as 'incredible' and wishing him success for the remainder of the tournament. He expressed, 'What an incredible achievement!! Congratulations to @cristiano on becoming the first player to score in six FIFA World Cups. My best wishes for the rest of the tournament. What an incredible feat!!'



Ronaldo was instrumental in leading Portugal to victory, scoring two goals, while teammates Nuno Mendes and Rafael Leao also contributed to the scoreline. An own goal from Uzbekistan's goalkeeper Abduvohid Nematov added to the team's woes, allowing Portugal to secure their first win of the tournament convincingly.


The match saw Portugal take an early lead with Ronaldo netting in the 6th minute, followed by a stunning free-kick from Nuno Mendes. Ronaldo struck again before halftime, making it 3-0.


In the second half, Uzbekistan struggled to create chances, while Portugal maintained control and extended their lead in the 60th minute with an own goal after a flick from Joao Felix during a corner taken by Bruno Fernandes. Substitute Rafael Leao capped off the scoring late in the game, sealing a dominant 5-0 win.


This victory not only secured three crucial points for Portugal but also improved their goal difference ahead of the final group match. Additionally, Ronaldo's two goals brought him to a historic total of 10 World Cup goals, making him Portugal's all-time leading scorer in World Cup history, surpassing the legendary Eusebio.
