FIFA President Gianni Infantino has announced that the FIFA World Cup 2026 has set a remarkable new record for goals, with a total of 173 goals scored to date in the tournament.

In an Instagram post, Infantino highlighted that this current edition has already eclipsed the previous record of 172 goals, which was achieved during the 2022 FIFA World Cup held in Qatar.

He stated, "173 goals and counting - a new record in FIFA World Cup history! Surpassing the previous highest of 172 goals from Qatar underscores the excitement and attacking prowess that have already made the 2026 @fifaworldcup so unforgettable."

Infantino attributed this milestone to the dynamic attacking style and finishing skills of the players, extending his congratulations to all the goal scorers participating in the tournament.

"Congratulations to all the goalscorers, and I look forward to many more goals as we approach the final on Sunday, July 19, in New York New Jersey," he added.
