FIFA Suspends All Nepal Football Association, Impacting National Teams
FIFA's Suspension of ANFA
Zurich [Switzerland], June 25: The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has been suspended by FIFA effective immediately, marking a significant setback for football in Nepal.
According to a statement released following the Bureau of the Council's decision on June 24, 2026, the suspension is in accordance with article 16 of FIFA's Statutes.
This suspension means that Nepal's national teams and clubs will not be able to compete in any international events organized by FIFA or the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Additionally, ANFA will lose access to FIFA and AFC's development programs, training sessions, and educational opportunities for its members and officials.
As of June 24, 2026, ANFA has forfeited all membership rights as outlined in article 13 of FIFA's Statutes. Consequently, ANFA representatives and club teams are prohibited from participating in international competitions until the suspension is lifted. Furthermore, neither ANFA nor its members can take advantage of any development programs or training offered by FIFA or the AFC. The statement also cautioned affiliates against engaging in any sporting agreements with ANFA or its teams during the suspension period.
FIFA indicated that the suspension could be lifted prior to the next FIFA Congress if the issues leading to this decision are addressed.
In conclusion, the Bureau of the Council or the FIFA Council has the authority to revoke this suspension at any time before the next FIFA Congress, and updates will be provided accordingly.
