Feyenoord's Jordan Bos will be out for three months following knee surgery after an injury during Australia's World Cup campaign. Meanwhile, Mitch Duke has announced his retirement from international football, ending a notable career with the Socceroos. Duke's contributions included key goals in World Cup matches and a significant role in Australia's qualification for the upcoming tournament. This article explores both players' recent developments and their impact on Australian football.

Jordan Bos to Miss Initial Months of Season

Rotterdam [Netherlands], July 12: Feyenoord's left-back Jordan Bos will be sidelined for the first three months of the upcoming season due to a knee injury sustained during Australia's FIFA World Cup 2026 journey, as confirmed by the Dutch club on Saturday.

The Eredivisie team announced that the 23-year-old successfully underwent surgery on his left knee following the injury.

Bos had to leave the field in the first half of Australia's Round of 32 match against Egypt in Dallas on July 3 after a heavy tackle led to his injury. Unfortunately, Australia was eliminated from the tournament after losing in a penalty shootout.

Despite this setback, Bos had a commendable World Cup, participating in every match and marking a successful comeback after battling serious hamstring injuries.

He joined Feyenoord from Belgian club Westerlo prior to last season and made a significant impact, netting four goals in 36 appearances during his debut year with the Dutch team.

Mitch Duke Announces Retirement from International Football

In related news, Australian striker Mitch Duke has declared his retirement from international football, concluding a decade-long career with the Socceroos.

The 35-year-old made 50 appearances for Australia and was a vital player throughout his international tenure. Duke participated in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where he scored the crucial headed goal against Tunisia, marking Australia's first World Cup win in 12 years.

He also played a significant role in Australia's qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scoring the decisive goal against Saudi Arabia during the qualifiers last year. However, he was not selected for Australia's final squad for the upcoming World Cup in North America.

“After much contemplation, I have decided to officially announce my retirement from international football,” Duke stated on Saturday. “Growing up in Australia, I always dreamed of wearing the green and gold, and representing my country 50 times has been a dream come true. Scoring for Australia at the 2022 FIFA World Cup is the highlight of my career, and it has been the greatest honor of my life to wear the Socceroos jersey,” he added.
