Fakhar Zaman Charged with Ball-Tampering

Fakhar Zaman may be subjected to a one-match suspension following allegations of tampering with the ball during the Lahore Qalandars' recent four-wicket defeat against the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026. He has been charged with a Level 3 offence, which carries a minimum one-match ban and a maximum of two matches for a first-time violation in a PSL season.

According to a statement from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), "Fakhar Zaman has been charged with a Level 3 Offence under Article 2.14 of the relevant Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, for breaching Article 41.3 of the HBL PSL 11 playing conditions, which prohibits any actions that alter the ball's condition."

During a disciplinary hearing led by Match Referee Roshan Mahanama, Fakhar denied the allegations against him. Another hearing is scheduled within the next 48 hours, after which the Match Referee will announce his decision. The incident took place during the second innings of the match.

Details of the On-Field Incident

The Lahore Qalandars found themselves in a controversy regarding ball-tampering after they were penalized five runs for changing the ball's condition just before the final over against the Karachi Kings.

The match, which the Kings won with three balls remaining, reached a critical moment at the end of the 19th over, with Karachi needing 14 runs in the last over. As Haris Rauf prepared to bowl for the Qalandars, Shaheen Afridi, Rauf, and Fakhar Zaman briefly handled the ball in quick succession. Umpire Faisal Afridi, noticing the exchange, called for an inspection of the ball. After a thorough examination and discussions with square-leg umpire Sharfuddoula, the umpires concluded that the Qalandars had intentionally altered the ball's condition, resulting in a five-run penalty for the Kings and an immediate ball change.

This decision shifted the momentum significantly in favor of the Karachi Kings. Although Khushdil Shah was dismissed on the first delivery, Haris Rauf followed with a costly wide, and Abbas Afridi finished the match with a four and a six, securing a thrilling victory with three balls to spare.

Hasan Ali Penalized for Code of Conduct Violation

In a related incident, Karachi Kings' fast bowler Hasan Ali was fined 10% of his match fee for a Level 1 breach of the PCB's Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. Hasan accepted the charge and the penalty. He violated Article 2.5, which addresses "Using language, actions, or gestures that could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon dismissal during a match."
