Thrilling Football Action Resumes

New Delhi, July 14: After a brief two-day hiatus, the Oriental Cup 2026 resumed under sunny skies, creating ideal conditions for an exhilarating day of football at Dr. Ambedkar Stadium.

Day 5 showcased the quarterfinals for the Girls' category, with Vasant Valley School, Modern School, Step by Step School, Noida, and Bharti Public School securing their spots in the semi-finals, as reported in a recent announcement.

In the Boys' category, Vasant Valley School clinched the final quarterfinal position after a nail-biting penalty shootout against Kendriya Vidyalaya, R.K. Puram, winning 4-3 following a goalless draw in regular time.

The match was intense, with both teams showcasing their attacking prowess and creating numerous chances, but neither could find the back of the net during regulation. Ultimately, Vasant Valley School held their composure in the penalty shootout to complete the quarterfinal lineup.

In the Girls' quarterfinals, Vasant Valley School triumphed with a narrow 1-0 win over Government Girls Senior Secondary School, NIT Faridabad, thanks to a goal from Tanvie Gogoi in the 30th minute.

Modern School advanced decisively to the semi-finals, dominating Sapphire International School with a 6-0 victory. Dhwani Bidada shone with a hat-trick, scoring in the 11th, 22nd, and 32nd minutes, while Aradhya Sherawat contributed two goals, and Keerti Panchal opened the scoring early in the match.

Step by Step School, Noida, also secured their semi-final spot with a solid 2-0 win against St. Francis De Sales Senior Secondary School. Meher Gupta netted both goals, scoring in the 7th and 27th minutes.

Bharti Public School rounded off the semi-final lineup by defeating Mother’s International School 2-0. Nikita scored in the 3rd minute, followed by Araddhya Dhang's goal in the 23rd minute, ensuring a convincing victory.

The Oriental Cup 2026 continues with the Boys' quarterfinals, intensifying the competition for a place in the semi-finals. This year's edition, running from July 7 to July 16, features over 1,500 student-athletes from more than 45 teams across Delhi-NCR, with a significantly increased prize pool and a Rs 2.5 lakh scholarship program for ten deserving athletes.
