Major League Pickleball Action in Austin


The third stop of Major League Pickleball (MLP) in Austin kicked off on June 11 with a series of thrilling matches. The Miami Pickleball Club secured a 3-1 victory against the California Black Bears, while the Columbus Sliders achieved a commanding 4-0 win over the Carolina Hogs. The Florida Smash triumphed over the Dallas Flash with a score of 3-1, and the New Jersey 5s also claimed a 3-1 win against the Bay Area Breakers.


The highlight of the day was the intense match between the Texas Ranchers and the Atlanta Bouncers, where the Bouncers narrowly won 3-2. The Ranchers initially took the lead with Layne Sleeth and Lea Jansen winning the women's doubles match 11-4 against Keilly Ulery and Jessie Irvine. However, Jay Devilliers and Jaume Martinez Vich brought the Bouncers back into contention by winning the men's doubles match against Nicolas Acevedo and Eric Oncins.


In the mixed doubles, Devilliers and Jessie Irvine triumphed over Lea Jansen and Nicolas Acevedo, putting the Bouncers ahead. The Ranchers equalized with Layne Sleeth and Eric Oncins dominating their match 11-1 against Keilly Ulery and Jaume Martinez Vich. The match concluded with a DreamBreaker, where Donald Young defeated Matthew Barlow 21-11, sealing a dramatic win for the Bouncers.


Looking ahead, the top four teams from each group will compete for standings points on Super Sunday in Austin. The matchups will determine how many points are awarded, with the winners of the top matches receiving up to 25 standings points.
