Exciting Community Event Combines Pickleball and Live Music for a Good Cause
Community Event to Unite Generations
A new event in the Tri-Cities area aims to blend pickleball, live blues music, and fundraising to foster connections across generations. Titled “Pickleball Smash,” this gathering is scheduled for Friday, March 13, from 5 PM to 10 PM at Pickleball Kingdom in North Aurora. The initiative was conceived by Brad Esposito and his fiancée Laura, inspired by their volunteer experiences with Meals on Wheels and the Fox Valley Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
Brad expressed their vision, stating, “Our aim was to create a joyful and welcoming environment where individuals can come together, connect, and contribute to a meaningful cause in their community.” He added, “If attendees leave feeling more connected than when they arrived, we will have achieved our goal.”
The event will offer beginner-friendly lessons and open play suitable for all skill levels, accompanied by live Chicago blues music performed by The Harry Garner Band featuring JR Wydra. Attendees can also enjoy food and non-alcoholic drinks.
A portion of the net proceeds, after covering expenses, will benefit Kane Senior Council Meals on Wheels and the Fox Valley Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Early bird tickets are available for $26, with prices set to rise as the event date approaches. Seniors and children under 12 can attend for just $16.
Brad noted that the concept was influenced by the noticeable effects of isolation on seniors and the strong community engagement observed during last year’s Alzheimer’s walk. The organizers have partnered with several local small businesses to create a relaxed atmosphere reminiscent of a casual Friday night gathering rather than a formal fundraiser.
