Teams Arrive for the FIH Hockey Men's Junior World Cup
As the FIH Hockey Men's Junior World Cup Tamil Nadu 2025 approaches, anticipation is rising with more teams landing in India. Japan and Chile have reached Chennai, while Spain and Austria have arrived in Madurai to finalize their preparations. This prestigious tournament is scheduled from November 28 to December 10, attracting teams with diverse ambitions and histories, marking it as the largest Junior World Cup to date, according to a statement from Hockey India.
Japan Eager to Shine
Japan, participating in its fourth FIH Hockey Men's Junior World Cup, arrived late Monday. They are placed in Pool C alongside Argentina, China, and New Zealand. The Japanese team is determined to make a significant impact during their time in India. Their first match is against Argentina on November 28, followed by games against China on November 30 and New Zealand on December 1. Head coach Yoshihiro Anai expressed confidence, stating, "We have trained rigorously, including matches against the senior Japan Men's Hockey Team, and we feel prepared. Our opening match against Argentina will be a challenging one."
Chile Aims for Better Results
Following closely behind Japan, the Chile Men's Junior Hockey Team has arrived, drawn in Pool B with India, Oman, and Switzerland. After finishing 15th in the previous tournament, Chile is focused on enhancing their performance. They will kick off their campaign against India on November 28, followed by matches against Switzerland on November 29 and Oman on December 2.
Spain Seeks Medal Upgrade
Spain, which has previously secured Bronze medals in 2005 and 2023, is looking to elevate its standing this year. They are in Pool D with Belgium, Egypt, and Namibia, starting their tournament on November 28 against Egypt in Madurai. Coach Oriol Puig Torras shared his enthusiasm, stating, "This is my first visit to Madurai, and the hospitality has been exceptional. We are thrilled to participate in this esteemed tournament. Our preparations have been fruitful, and I believe we have a capable team. We aspire to improve upon our past performances and make our nation proud."
