Eugenio Chacarra Holds Four-Shot Lead at Indian Open Heading into Final Round
Chacarra Aims for Title Double with Four-Shot Advantage
At the DLF Golf and Country Club, the final round of the Indian Open is set to unfold, with Spaniard Eugenio Chacarra leading by four shots. This significant lead places him in a prime position to secure a title double, a feat not achieved since SSP Chawrasia did so in 2016. Chacarra currently sits at 10-under par, ahead of South African MJ Daffue and Englishman Alex Fitzpatrick.
Chacarra's two-under 70 performance has him poised for the final challenge at this prestigious DP World Tour event, which boasts a prize pool of $2.55 million.
Chasing Competitors Struggle on Moving Day
The third day, often referred to as Moving Day, saw competitors attempting to close the gap on Chacarra. However, the challenging course conditions proved difficult. South African Casey Jarvis, who had previously shot an impressive eight-under 64, struggled with bogeys, finishing the day at three-over-par and six shots behind the leader.
Jarvis aims to replicate Rory McIlroy's achievement of four consecutive top-2 finishes on the DP World Tour, while new contenders emerged in the top five, including David Law and Freddy Schott.
Chacarra's Eventful Round Three
The morning's conditions were less than ideal, leading to a slow start for the leaders. Chacarra managed to secure his first birdie on the fifth hole but faced a setback with a bogey shortly after. This motivated him to go on a birdie streak, particularly excelling towards the end of the front nine.
Despite facing challenges on the 13th and 14th holes, Chacarra maintained his composure, reminding himself that he was not alone in making mistakes. He concluded his round positively with a birdie on the 16th hole.
'Monster' Course Challenges Players
The course has been described as a 'monster' by Daffue, emphasizing the need for precision in shot placement due to the fast greens. Fitzpatrick echoed these sentiments, noting the difficulty of the course and his own struggles to maintain a level par score.
