Indian shooter Esha Singh characterized the interruptions during her exhilarating women's 25m pistol final at the 2026 Asian Games as a blessing in disguise. She noted that these breaks alleviated the unexpected fatigue and tightness in her hand, which she experienced while competing for the silver medal. After the event on Monday, Esha shared her memorable experience, expressing her intention to celebrate with a sumptuous meal alongside her coach, Raunak.

Intense Medal Competition

Throughout the final, Esha was engaged in a fierce contest for the medals, ultimately securing second place behind China's Xiao Jiaruixian. Esha finished with 38 points, tying with Xiao after the regular final. She first triumphed over North Korea's Kim Hyon Suk in the shoot-off for silver and bronze before facing Xiao in the gold-medal shoot-off. The gold contest also ended in a tie after the initial shoot-off, necessitating another five-shot round. Xiao emerged victorious, hitting three targets compared to Esha's two, thus earning the silver medal.

Grateful for the Experience

Reflecting on the intense final, Esha admitted she did not anticipate the competition to unfold in such a dramatic fashion but felt thankful for the experience. "I put on quite a show for the audience. Thank you. I wasn't expecting it to go like this. I had to really strive for the medal, but I believe this was meant to be memorable, and that's why it unfolded this way. Looking back, I had fun," she remarked.

Breaks That Benefited Her

The final was interrupted twice due to technical issues, causing breaks in the shoot-off. When asked if these interruptions distracted her, Esha explained that the breaks were beneficial in managing her physical fatigue during the competition. "In my case, it was very helpful because my hand was getting unexpectedly tired and tight towards the end of the match. If it weren't for those breaks, it might have seemed like it broke my concentration, but it actually helped me. Perhaps it was God's grace that it happened," Esha concluded.
