England's World Cup Clash: Tuchel Addresses Viagra Reports Ahead of Mexico Match
Tuchel Responds to Viagra Claims
Thomas Tuchel has addressed the rumors surrounding the use of Viagra by England players in preparation for their upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 match against Mexico on July 5 at the renowned Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. This Round of 16 encounter poses a significant challenge for the Three Lions as they face the co-hosts in a high-stakes match. The players will also contend with the high altitude of the venue, situated at 2,241 meters (7,352 ft) above sea level, which could impact their performance, especially after playing in the more temperate conditions of the United States.
Reports from English media suggested that players were permitted to use Viagra to acclimatize to the altitude. However, Tuchel dismissed these claims, stating, "The information and the support didn’t reach me. That is not true."
England's Return to Azteca After Four Decades
This match will be England's first appearance at the Azteca Stadium in 40 years, with their last visit being during the iconic quarter-final against Argentina in the 1986 World Cup. That match is famously remembered for Diego Maradona's 'Hand of God' and 'Goal of the Century,' where England lost 2-1.
Historically, England has faced Mexico only twice, winning both encounters. Their most recent match was a friendly in 2010, while their only World Cup meeting occurred during England's victorious 1966 campaign in the group stage at Wembley Stadium.
