England's Resilient Start in Day-Night Ashes Test Against Australia

Australia had set a challenging target after scoring 511 runs, with Mitchell Starc leading the charge with a notable 77 runs. Day Three Highlights of the Ashes Test

On the third day of the day-night Ashes Test in Brisbane, Ben Duckett and Jack Crawley showcased their resilience, guiding England to a score of 45 runs without losing a wicket by dinner time. Australia had previously been bowled out for 511 runs, giving them a substantial lead of 177 runs. The opening batsmen, Duckett (13*) and Crawley (26*), remained unbeaten at dinner, forming a solid partnership. England managed to recover from their deficit by scoring 45 runs in just six overs. Mitchell Starc was the standout performer for Australia, scoring an impressive 77 runs in the second innings.




Australia commenced the second session with a score of 450/8 after 99 overs, extending their lead to 116 runs. Starc (46*) and Scott Boland (7*) were at the crease, with Starc completing his half-century in the very first over of the session by hitting a boundary off Will Jacks. With this achievement, Starc joined an elite group of players who have scored 50 or more runs while also taking five wickets in a day-night Test match.




He now stands alongside Dilruwan Perera and Jason Holder in this exclusive list. Starc has also become the highest-scoring batsman at the ninth position in Test matches, amassing 1,408 runs at an average of 22.34 over 77 innings in 64 Tests, including eight half-centuries and a top score of 99. He has surpassed England's Stuart Broad in this regard.




In the 109th over, Starc dismissed Gus Atkinson, and with two boundaries in that over, he pushed the score past 150. However, in the 111th over, Brydon Carse finally got Starc out after he scored 77 runs off 141 balls. Following this, Brendan Doggett joined Boland at the crease. Jack Crawley turned the tide of the Australian innings by dismissing Doggett for 13 runs in the 117th over. Boland and Doggett added 20 runs for the last wicket, helping Australia reach a total of 511 runs in 117.3 overs. Earlier, Australia had maintained dominance in the ongoing second Ashes Test against England, reaching 450 runs for 8 wickets by the end of the third day’s tea break.
