Read on to find out more about how the team is coping with these challenges.

Weather Disrupts England's Training in Kansas City

The England football team encountered unexpected weather challenges while preparing for their FIFA World Cup 2026 match against Croatia, scheduled for June 18 (IST). A tornado warning was issued in Kansas City, prompting the team to remain indoors as local authorities alerted residents about severe weather conditions. Under the guidance of coach Thomas Tuchel, the squad had just arrived in Kansas after a training session in Florida. Initially, they practiced at the Swope Soccer Village under hot weather, but conditions rapidly deteriorated as a storm approached.

According to reports from Athletic, players received alerts on their mobile devices regarding the severe weather, leading to instructions to stay away from windows due to potential winds reaching 80 mph. Shortly thereafter, a tornado warning was declared for Johnson County, Kansas, where the team's accommodation is situated. Although the England squad remained in their hotel, the impact of the tornado was felt throughout the area. Reports indicated that the tornado touched down in Missouri, but fortunately, it was not in close proximity to the team's location.

The severe weather also caused significant disruptions in the region, including heavy rainfall that resulted in power outages in various locations. Additionally, the broadcast of the FIFA World Cup was affected by the adverse weather conditions. This incident marks yet another hurdle for the England team as they prepare for their World Cup opener; prior to their arrival in Kansas, their training kits and boots were stolen when a van carrying their equipment was broken into.

Continued Training Amidst Weather Concerns

Despite the weather challenges, the England team plans to continue their training in Kansas ahead of their match against Croatia. However, tournament organizers are increasingly worried about the weather, as extreme conditions have become a frequent occurrence during significant football events in the area. Last summer's Club World Cup experienced multiple match delays and rescheduling due to severe storms and lightning. Currently, storm warnings have been issued for two upcoming matches: Sweden vs. Tunisia in Monterrey, Mexico, and Ivory Coast vs. Ecuador in Philadelphia, scheduled for Sunday.
