Eddie Howe Discusses Alexander Isak's Uncertain Future at Newcastle United
Isak's Future Remains Uncertain
Seoul [South Korea], July 29: Newcastle United's head coach, Eddie Howe, has acknowledged that the future of star striker Alexander Isak is not entirely within his control, as rumors about a potential transfer continue to circulate.
As reported by ESPN, Isak is reportedly considering a move this summer, with Liverpool being a leading contender for his signature. The striker missed Newcastle's preseason tour in Asia due to a thigh injury and was also absent from the friendly match against Celtic, which has fueled speculation regarding his future.
Howe spoke to the media in Seoul about Isak's situation, stating, “He remains our player and is under contract with us. We have some influence over what happens next. I hope all options are still open to us.”
He further expressed, “I wish for him to stay, but that decision is not solely mine. We have yet to receive any formal offers for Alex from other clubs. My hope is that he remains with us and plays again next season.”
The 25-year-old joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 and has three years remaining on his contract at St. James' Park. During his time with the club, Isak has scored 62 goals in three years and has been instrumental in helping Newcastle secure a Carabao Cup trophy and qualify for the Champions League last season.
Newcastle recently faced a heavy 4-0 defeat against Celtic and will next compete against a K-League XI in Suwon on July 30, aiming to regain their winning form ahead of the new season. They will conclude their preseason tour with a match against Tottenham in Hong Kong on August 3.
