Jansen's Career-Best Performance

Duan Jansen showcased an outstanding T20 performance, propelling the Joburg Super Kings to a remarkable 22-run victory against the Pretoria Capitals in the second match of the Betway SA20 Season 4 on Saturday. This win marked the Super Kings' first triumph at the Centurion ground against their Highveld rivals in four seasons.

Capitals' Middle Order Crumbles

The match was heavily influenced by Jansen, who earned the Player of the Match title with impressive bowling figures of 4/23. The Capitals appeared to be in a strong position to chase down the Super Kings' score of 168/6, thanks to a solid opening partnership of 71 runs between Will Smeed (34 runs off 30 balls) and Bryce Parsons (41 runs off 30 balls). However, the game shifted dramatically when the Super Kings struck back, reducing the Capitals from 86/2 to a staggering five wickets lost for just 28 runs, with Jansen leading the charge.

Key Wickets by Jansen

Jansen had already dismissed West Indian player Shai Hope in his initial spell and later returned to claim the vital wicket of Bryce Parsons. He continued his dominance by clean bowling Connor Esterhuizen and Daniel Smith, effectively ending the Capitals' resistance.

Fan Favorite: Jansen

Among the four candidates for Player of the Match, which included Tymal Mills, Wiaan Mulder, and Bryce Parsons, Jansen received an overwhelming 83.2% of the fan votes.

Super Kings' Resilience After Early Setbacks

The Capitals won the toss and opted to bowl first under clear skies at Centurion. Tymal Mills, the new English recruit, made an immediate impact by injuring Super Kings captain Faf du Plessis with a rising delivery. This set a challenging tone for the Super Kings, who lost both openers, Du Plessis and Matt de Villiers, for just 16 runs. However, Rilee Rossouw (48 runs off 33 balls) and Wiaan Mulder (43 runs off 28 balls) formed a crucial 78-run partnership for the third wicket, stabilizing the innings. Despite Mills returning to dismiss Rossouw, the Super Kings managed to set a formidable total, allowing Akeal Hosein (22 not out off 10 balls) and Dian Forrester (10 not out off 7 balls) to secure the victory.
