Championships Rescheduled

The Dink Minor League Pickleball Championships are set to occur in February 2027, as organizers have decided to move the event from its previous December schedule. This change aims to better align with the expanding global calendar of the sport. The announcement, made prior to the upcoming season, is anticipated to enhance the qualification process and enable more players and teams to finish their seasons before the championship event.

Recognized as the premier team competition in amateur pickleball, the Championships will once again feature elite teams vying for titles and a prize pool of $100,000. Specific dates and the venue for the event are yet to be finalized, with more information expected in the coming months.

Diverse Qualification Pathways

Players and teams will have multiple avenues to qualify for the 2027 Championships, reflecting the league's growth across both domestic and international circuits. These pathways include the USA National Leaderboard, Dream Tickets, entries linked to Major League Pickleball, international routes, a new collegiate system, and the Nations Cup.

Each qualification route offers a unique opportunity to secure a spot at the Championships.

USA National Leaderboard

One of the main qualification routes is the USA National Leaderboard. Players accumulate points by participating in official events throughout the season, which includes local tournaments, State Championships, and Regional Showdowns. Points are awarded based on finishing positions, with winners earning 1,000 points and second-place teams receiving 900, with a gradual decrease for lower placements. Regional Showdowns are particularly significant as they offer double points.

While players compete in teams, points are tracked individually. At the season's end, the top-ranked players in each division will have the opportunity to form teams and compete at the Championships.

Dream Tickets

Dream Tickets offer the fastest route to qualification. These tickets are awarded at select State Championships and Regional Showdowns. Teams that secure gold in their division at these events gain a direct entry to the Championships, provided they retain at least two players from their winning lineup, with limited changes allowed before the final event.

Major League Pickleball Bids

Teams affiliated with Major League Pickleball (MLP) can also qualify through direct bids. These entries may come from Dream Tickets, wild card selections, or partnered events. However, players must compete in at least one official Minor League Pickleball event during the season to be eligible.

International Pathways

The league's international expansion has created qualification routes for players outside the U.S. Countries are establishing their own ranking systems and selection processes, enabling top teams to qualify for the Championships through regional competitions.

College Pathway

A new collegiate pathway will offer opportunities for student players. College teams will compete in designated events, with eligibility requiring players to be enrolled in at least six credit hours and represent their respective institutions. More details about this pathway will be shared as the program develops.

Nations Cup Entry

A Nations Cup pathway has also been introduced as part of the expanded qualification system. This international team competition will run concurrently with the Championships, allowing players to qualify to represent their countries. Additional information regarding the format and qualification criteria will be announced soon.

Looking Ahead to February 2027

With the Championships now set for February, the entire season of qualifying events will conclude prior to the final showdown. Teams can qualify through exceptional performances, consistent rankings, or emerging international and collegiate pathways. Regardless of the route taken, the ultimate goal remains the same: to reach the Championships and compete among the top amateur teams in the sport.
