Dhruv Jurel Shines as Rajasthan Royals Dominate in IPL 2026 Eliminator
Dhruv Jurel Makes History with Rajasthan Royals
In a remarkable performance, Rajasthan Royals (RR) wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel secured his place in the franchise's history by scoring a crucial half-century against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) during the IPL 2026 Eliminator on Wednesday. His impressive innings allowed him to surpass the 500-run milestone for a single IPL season while batting from the No. 3 position or lower. Jurel is now the third player in Royals history to achieve this, joining Riyan Parag, who scored 573 runs in 2024, and Sanju Samson, who had 531 runs in the same season. Currently, Jurel has amassed 508 runs in the 2026 season. Additionally, he recorded his sixth score of 50 or more in this season, placing him among the top performers for RR in a single IPL campaign, alongside Jos Buttler (8 in 2022) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (6 in 2023 and 6 in 2025).
Rajasthan Royals Set a High Target
In the match, the Royals showcased their batting prowess, posting an impressive total of 243/8 against Hyderabad, largely thanks to a phenomenal innings from 15-year-old opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
Sooryavanshi's Record-Breaking Performance
Rajasthan opted to bat first and got off to a sensational start, with Sooryavanshi taking charge during the powerplay with his aggressive batting style. He hit SRH captain Pat Cummins for 23 runs in the third over, propelling RR to 45/0. The young opener continued his onslaught, reaching a blistering half-century in just 16 balls, helping the team to 63/0 and finishing the powerplay at a commanding 80/0. Sooryavanshi's extraordinary performance included breaking the record for the most sixes in a single IPL season, surpassing Chris Gayle's previous record of 59. He was eventually dismissed in the eighth over after scoring a remarkable 97 runs off 29 balls, which included five fours and 12 sixes. He narrowly missed the record for the fastest century in IPL history by just three runs, but his innings set Rajasthan up for a strong position at 136/1 by the halfway mark.
Jurel's Impact in the Middle Overs
Following Sooryavanshi's dismissal, RR maintained their momentum despite losing wickets. Yashasvi Jaiswal struggled with his timing and was out for a run-a-ball 29, but Rajasthan quickly crossed the 150-run mark. Jurel then revitalized the innings with a powerful counterattack against SRH's Cummins, scoring 17 runs in one over and reaching his half-century in just 20 balls. However, he was dismissed shortly after, scoring 50 runs off 21 balls, which included five fours and three sixes.
SRH's Late Fightback
Rajasthan continued to score rapidly, reaching 200 runs in the 15th over and standing at 207/3. However, SRH made a comeback through Praful Hinge, who took out skipper Riyan Parag for a quick 26 runs off 12 balls. In the final overs, RR lost several wickets, including Donovan Ferreira (12), Dasun Shanaka (5), Jofra Archer (4), and Nandre Burger (1). Ravindra Jadeja remained not out at 12 as Rajasthan concluded their innings at a formidable 243/8.
For SRH, Praful Hinge was the standout bowler, finishing with figures of 3/54, while Eshan Malinga (1/40), Shivang Kumar (1/19), and Nitish Reddy (1/12) also contributed with wickets.
