Dhiren Patel's Gold Medal Victory


Dhiren Patel clinched the gold medal in the Men’s Singles 5.0 (40–49) division at the 2026 Franklin US Open Pickleball Championships, concluding a remarkable tournament with a hard-fought win in the final. Patel faced Juan Arraya in a thrilling three-game match, securing victory with scores of 11-9, 3-11, and 11-9 on Court 25. The decisive game was tightly contested, but Patel maintained his composure during critical moments to claim the championship. Arraya took home the silver medal, while Alex Mabred earned bronze in this category.


In another impressive achievement, Naga Moksha Yerram earned a bronze medal in the women’s singles (ages 12–29) category, showcasing her talent at the event. Earlier in the tournament, Arjun Singh had also made headlines by winning the Men’s Singles 5.0 gold medal on April 12, alongside his brother Aditya Singh, in the Under-18 Boys Doubles. The Indian siblings triumphed over the top-seeded American duo of Ryder Brown and Soli Messiri with a score of 11-1, 11-5 in the final, highlighting their rising prominence in the international junior pickleball scene.


Their success signifies a pivotal moment for Indian pickleball, as young athletes begin to compete against and defeat established players from traditional powerhouses like the United States. Following the victory, Suryaveer Singh Bhullar, president of the Indian Pickleball Association, expressed his excitement, stating, “My words have come true: the future of global pickleball domination is India.”


Additionally, Arjun Singh, a 15-year-old pickleball sensation, was honored as the Men’s Pickleball Player of the Year for 2025. The Mumbai native showcased exceptional skills during the inaugural season of the IPBL after being selected by the Bengaluru Blasters. Known for his aggressive playstyle, Arjun also demonstrates the ability to control rallies and execute powerful shots consistently. Prior to the IPBL, he gained recognition by winning the men’s singles title at the IPA Nationals in Bengaluru last November and securing a silver medal in the men’s doubles category. His consistent performance at such a young age solidifies his potential in a sport where maintaining excellence is challenging.
