Court Decision on Indian Pickleball Association

The Indian Pickleball Association (IPA) has expressed its satisfaction with the Delhi High Court's recent ruling, which declined to impose a stay on its status as the National Sports Federation (NSF). This decision underscores IPA's dedication to regulatory adherence and collaboration with relevant authorities. On February 2, 2026, the Delhi High Court dismissed a petition from the All India Pickleball Association (AIPA) that contested IPA's NSF recognition.

AIPA has since sought to challenge this ruling by filing a Letters Patent Appeal (LPA) with the Division Bench of the Delhi High Court. On April 7, 2026, the court issued a notice regarding the LPA and instructed the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) to present the documentation related to the recognition process.

In accordance with the National Sports Development Code of India, which requires annual reviews for sports bodies, the court has directed the Union Government to allow AIPA to submit written representations and to provide a personal hearing during the evaluation of IPA's annual renewal application. Despite AIPA's counsel making multiple submissions, the Division Bench did not grant a stay on IPA's recognition or the earlier ruling from February 2, 2026. Additionally, the court rejected AIPA's request for the Union Government to conduct its annual review without influence from the previous ruling.
