Wiese and Stoinis Propel Gladiators to Victory
A remarkable partnership between David Wiese, who scored 59 not out off 21 balls, and Marcus Stoinis, with 40 not out off 22, led the Deccan Gladiators to an impressive eight-wicket win against the Royal Champs during the 2025 Abu Dhabi T10 tournament. On Thursday, while chasing a target of 134, the duo formed an unbroken 105-run partnership in just 43 deliveries, captivating the audience at Zayed Cricket Stadium.
Wiese showcased his power-hitting skills with seven sixes and two fours, while Stoinis contributed with three fours and two sixes, helping the defending champions reach their target in just 9.2 overs.
Earlier in the match, Nicholas Pooran made a quickfire 24 off 6 balls, aggressively attacking Rishi Dhawan with three consecutive sixes and a four before Dhawan managed to dismiss him in the same over.
Royal Champs Set a Competitive Score
In the first innings, the Royal Champs, after opting to bat, built a series of solid partnerships to keep the scoreboard ticking. Captain Jason Roy scored 17 off 9 balls, and Niroshan Dickwella contributed 33 off 17, forming a brisk 28-run partnership in just 16 balls before Roy was dismissed by Ibrar Ahmad. Dickwella's innings was complemented by Brendon McMullen, who remained unbeaten with 28 off 19.
A late surge saw the Champs score 43 runs in the last two overs. Aaron Jones hit 28 off 13 balls, including two fours and two sixes, before being dismissed by Lahiru Kumar, who finished with figures of 2/35. Quentin Sampson added 14 not out off 3 balls, hitting two consecutive sixes, bringing the total to a formidable 133/3.
Quetta Qavalry Overcome Ajman Titans
In the third match on Wednesday, the Quetta Qavalry easily chased down a target of 108, securing an eight-wicket victory with contributions from various players. Openers Evin Lewis and Andries Gous both scored 13 runs, setting the stage for the chase before falling within the first three overs. Liam Livingstone and Muhammad Waseem then added a rapid 43-run partnership in just 20 balls before Waseem was dismissed by Jason Behrendorff in the sixth over. Khwaja Nafay continued the momentum, hitting two fours and two sixes as the Qavalry reached their target in just 7.2 overs.
Earlier, the Titans managed to post 107/7 after a shaky start at 12/3. Abbas Afridi and Khuzaima Tanveer were the standout bowlers for the Qavalry, but it was Moeen Ali who turned the innings around for the Titans with a spectacular 59 off 21 balls. His innings included a rapid fifty off 19 balls, featuring four fours and six sixes, which helped the Titans recover from a precarious position to set a competitive total, capped by three consecutive sixes in the final over.
