CSK Secures Victory Over MI with Stellar Performances from Gaikwad and Kartik
Gaikwad and Kartik Shine in CSK's Win
In a thrilling encounter at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) triumphed over the Mumbai Indians (MI) by eight wickets during their IPL 2026 match on Saturday. CSK's captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Kartik Sharma were instrumental in the chase for 160 runs, both scoring impressive fifties. Gaikwad contributed 67 runs off 48 balls, while Kartik added 54 runs off 40 balls, leading CSK to victory with 11 balls remaining.
The match began with an early setback for CSK as MI's Jasprit Bumrah took the wicket of Sanju Samson (11 runs off 9 balls) in the second over, catching him out and momentarily quieting the home crowd.
Urvil Patel provided a brief spark with a quick 24 runs off 12 balls, but his aggressive play ended when he was dismissed by Allah Ghazanfar in the sixth over, leaving CSK at 62/2 at the end of the Powerplay.
Taking charge, Gaikwad steadied the innings, forming a solid partnership with Kartik. Gaikwad reached his second consecutive half-century of the tournament in the 14th over, scoring his fifty off just 34 balls, which laid the foundation for a comfortable chase.
Kartik also reached his fifty in 39 balls, and together they forged a 98-run partnership, securing CSK's fourth win of the IPL 2026 season.
For MI, Jasprit Bumrah (1/20 in 3 overs) and Allah Ghazanfar (1/40 in 4 overs) were the only bowlers to take wickets.
With this victory, CSK climbed to the sixth position in the IPL 2026 points table, now holding eight points from eight matches.
Naman Dhir's Contribution to MI's Total
Earlier in the match, MI chose to bat first but faced early challenges against CSK's bowlers. The opening pair struggled, with Mukesh Choudhary and Anshul Kamboj applying pressure. Kamboj took the crucial wicket of Will Jacks, who managed only 1 run off 5 balls.
Ryan Rickelton provided some momentum with a counter-attacking 37 runs off 24 balls, hitting five sixes and helping MI score 57 runs in the powerplay.
Naman Dhir, who received a lifeline on 19 in the seventh over, played a pivotal role in stabilizing the innings after early wickets fell. Suryakumar Yadav, who started well, was dismissed for 21 by Ramakrishna Ghosh.
Dhir anchored the innings, and despite losing Tilak Varma for 5, he continued to build MI's score, reaching 106/3 in 12 overs.
However, Noor Ahmad dismissed Varma, and Jamie Overton later took Dhir's wicket for a well-made 57. MI struggled towards the end, managing only 39 runs in the last five overs, finishing at 159/7.
Kamboj was the standout bowler for CSK, taking three wickets, while Ahmad secured two, and Ghosh and Overton contributed with one wicket each.
